Today was the first day we had our students, and for me it was an amazing experience. When we first got to the Bible school, we did devotions, and then started to prepare for our classes. As soon as most the students were in the room, Sisa gave directions, and the students were off to take their placement tests. Now these students aren't all elementary or high school aged students. in fact, they are students that range from 13 years old to 63 years young.
Since there weren't any students while they were testing, there was time for some of the Vancouver team and most of the California team a chance to bond. They didn't know, but I was practicing some of my games on them. ;) The students came back to the main room as they finished their placement test and joined right in the games.
We played some games such as rummy, extreme rock paper scissors and all sorts of relay races. It really surprised me how they were so willing to participate and how much fun they were having. As I looked around the room, all I could see and hear were smiles and laughter.

We started teaching, which in some ways was our way of trying to get to know our students better. I think it worked, because after lunch and a gelato run, it seemed to me that mine and Joyce's students were a little more eager to talk. We taught for about an hour and a half and then decided it was time to play some taboo, but with easier rules. After all, we all are trying to learn a new language! We had closing and our school day came to a close. After a debriefing of how the day went, and some serious planning for what we were going to do the rest of the week, we were off to free time.
I went with the young people tonight and it was laundry night. We did 3 loads of laundry with a lot of help, ate some corn pizza (yes, it is actually pretty delicious), another gelato run, went shopping for a few things, and came back to the hotel because we were tired. It was a long day for us, and we know there will be many more ahead!

Now the labors of love begin. I pray GOD opens the hearts and minds of both student and teacher alike. Many thanks to all who invest and sacrifice to put word and picture on this wonder blog.
Thank you giving your all to your students and still finding the energy to share your day with us. You are in our prayers, our thoughts, and our laughter.
