Halfway Through Week 1

Well today started out like any other teaching day we've had. That is with breakfast, then  devotions at 7:45 in the morning, preparing for our classes and then starting the day. Today was the first full day of teaching and boy did we have a lot planned for our students. We started the school day by singing a few songs, doing the hokey pokey, then going to our teaching areas. The morning was skill time where we went over the homework assigned the day before, talked about a YouTube video the students watched, and then put it all into practice. We also went over some commonly confused pears (it's not spelled wrong, that's the title of the worksheet) and some vocabulary. By that time it was break time and we had rhubarb cookies. We also enjoyed some piano music performed by one of the intermediate students. After the break it was time to practice all that the students had learned by answering some discussion questions in hopes that the students would start sharing more about their life experiences. Lunch time came pretty quickly and off to the cafeteria we marched. As soon as we quickly finished our lunch, we decided there was plenty of time for a gelato run. Yes, we have been too many times to count in the last few days. When it was time to start class again, all the intermediate and advanced students joined together to watch the first fifteen minutes of Fireproof. It is being used for vales curriculum much Ike Courageous was used last year. We had some discussion after the segment was finished and shortly after it was time for closing. The contest for today was "Who has the most pets?" and a little boy quickly responded with twenty-three. Wow!

Shortly after class, most of the team got on a bus and were driven to Šútovo. We hiked a moderate one-hour hike to the base of Šútovo waterfall which ended up being 2.33 miles one way, with a 1000 foot elevation climb. It was gorgeous and well worth the time and energy it took to get there. After many amazing views and pictures and realizing just how powerful and amazing God is, we hiked back to the bus to come back to Martin. I am ready to go to bed and it is only 10:00!
The last two days were very special for me because I was able to reconnect with Kamil. Kamil was a student at the Bible school in Martin, and by God's plans, we the youth ministry intern at my church, Hope Lutheran, last summer. Kamil and I spent a lot of time together last summer with all the different youth trips, so it was wonderful to reconnect with him and hear about everything going on in his life. This trip has been an amazing way for me to see what God is dong in Martin, Slovakia as well as in my life, and the life of the team. I can't wait to see what more is in store for us!
